Theatre in the Dell – As You Like It

10th August 2016 at 7pm

Following on from their successful Shakespeare productions of previous years, Folksy Theatre present their own interpretation of As You Like It. Rosalind, the daughter of a banished duke, falls in love with Orlando. When she is then banished from the court by her usurping uncle, Rosalind takes on the appearance of a boy, and together with her cousin Celia and jester Touchstone, travels to the Forest of Arden, where her father and his friends live in exile. Will Rosalind ever marry her Orlando? Will the Duke change his ways?

This wonderful Shakespeare comedy about life, love, betrayal, faith and

death is filled with Folksy’s touch of bold characters, audience interaction and plenty of laughs. This is a perfect tribute to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

This year pre-theatre refreshments will be available or you can create your own picnic in The Old School Room at the Lyceum, adjacent

to the Dell itself, with catering by Port Sunlight Museum Tea Room.

Theatre in the Dell – The Smartest Giant In Town

9th August 2016 at 6:30pm

Once again the very popular Folksy Theatre brings its outdoor theatre to The Dell, this time with a performance to delight children of all ages. The Smartest Giant In Town is based on The Gruffalo and tells the story of

George who was very happy being the scruffiest giant in town. Then one day he sees a shop stocking giant-sized clothes and he decides it’s time to update his image. With smart clothes, George is a new man.

However, as he journeys home, he meets various animals who desperately need his help. George’s kind heart and generosity take him on an adventure where he discovers that it’s not how you look that’s important but how you feel.

Folksy’s musical adaptation of Julia Donaldson’s wonderful book will be filled with puppetry, colourful characters and songs that will have you clapping and singing along!

Port Sunlight Village Trust is sorry to announce that this year’s Fun Dog Show, due to take place on Sunday 6th August on the Museum Green in the village, has been cancelled.

We apologise for any disappointment or inconvenience this may cause to exhibitors, potential participants and spectators. We realise that this is a very popular event in the village’s annual calendar and we are hopeful that it will make a return in 2018.

Port Sunlight in Focus 1896 – 1916

ps-in-focus-3

Now open

Port Sunlight Museum’s latest special exhibition showcases the work of the three local photographers who contributed most to the pictorial record of Port Sunlight village during its first 25 years: Edward Jenkins, George Cotton and Jonathan George Davies.

Technical innovations in the late 1880s meant that cameras began to get smaller, lighter and less expensive and photography became accessible to millions of people who had no particular professional training. At Port Sunlight, the working and social environment meant that Lever Brothers employees had the spare time and disposable income to indulge in their hobbies, and as early as 1896 the village could boast a group of photography enthusiasts who were beginning to record every aspect of community life.

Port Sunlight in Focus 1896 – 1916 traces the early amateur photography of Edward Jenkins and George Cotton through to the commercial work of J George Davies as all three portrayed the village for their own pleasure, whilst also contributing to Lever Brothers rapidly expanding public relations machine. Rare and unpublished images of the village are displayed alongside some of the iconic views that helped Port Sunlight to achieve worldwide fame.

Open: 10am-5pm every day

Port Sunlight Village Trust toasts ‘special’ 2013 year

Port Sunlight 10k & 5k Road Race 2013

2014 is a pivotal year for Wirral maintains Chief Executive

Members of the Port Sunlight Village Trust have been toasting a special year following the area’s 125th celebrations and have also just revealed that 2013’s hugely successful Port Sunlight Village 10k/5k Road Race will be held again next year on Sunday 11th May 2014.

The event is expected to attract even more enthusiasts in spite of 2013’s record participation. That’s the belief of Lionel Bolland, Chief Executive of Port Sunlight Village Trust who jointly organises the event with BTR Events, which oversaw this year’s race along with the recent headline-grabbing Liverpool Santa Dash.

Mr Bolland said: “2013 was a bumper year for entries into the 10k and 5k races. The family atmosphere on the day was the perfect warm up for our Festival that took place later in the year and we knew from fellow organisers BTR Events that a race in 2014 would create even greater demand and we’re already seeing that.”

He added: “We’re releasing this news on the back of what’s been a special year for the Village and the Trust overall. It’s been 12 months of celebration for us in many ways. In February, Port Sunlight Museum completed a major refurbishment of the gift shop, new visitor signage, the creation of a special exhibitions gallery and improvements to the permanent exhibitions, enabling us to tell more of the Port Sunlight story.

“We […]
