We would like to re-imagine the Lyceum and create an inspiring place for residents and visitors to meet, create and learn for the community and visitors. Working with Chambers Conservation, we’ve created a series of visuals containing early ideas and the thinking behind them.
Once you’ve seen the ideas, you’re invited to leave your feedback. This will then inform the development of our plans later this year.
Please submit any feedback you may have by email to [email protected]

The Lyceum was originally built as the school for the developing
community of Port Sunlight and was used as a place of worship until
the church was built. Currently it is used partly as a social centre,
partly as an exhibition gallery with one section used as office space.
The project has arisen from the opportunity to put to productive
re-use a substantially vacant set of buildings of great character and
heritage value in the heart of the village. Initial work has identified
the importance and suitability of the buildings for a mix of public
uses and the role they could play in providing a central visitor hub.

Multi-Purpose Space: We want the Lyceum to be a place for our local communities. We hope to create an events space that will be used for community use,
school visits, public events, and that will be available for hire for private events. The illustration shows an idea of how this space might
look, together with some example images of other projects of a similar nature.
Workspaces: To provide opportunities for small, local businesses, we are exploring the idea of small spaces for rent
within the building, for office (or desk space), shops or studios, which will be useful for residents and an
attraction for visitors. These images show spaces of a similar nature.

Cafe: We think that having a café and shop in the Lyceum will help keep the village vibrant, and provide a facility for residents, people who
work here, and visitors. The illustration shows an idea of how this space might look, together with some example images of other projects
of a similar nature.
Terrace: We would like to enhance the connection between the Lyceum and the Dell making better connections
to the new building and providing seating areas that can be used by residents, people who work here,
and visitors. This outside space could be connected to the café and allow additional space for events, for
those visiting the Lyceum, for residents, dog-walkers and others. These images show spaces of a similar
nature.

We are exploring the idea of relocating Port Sunlight Museum and all its collections into the Lyceum,
including an exhibition telling the history of the village, and a pop-up exhibition space in which we
will have changing displays. Having the museum and all the collections in one place will help us to
care, grow and re-present them in new and innovative ways. A changing exhibition space will enable
us to tell the many different stories of the village’s history.

Port Sunlight Village Trust needs to make better use of the wonderful built heritage of the village. We are exploring ideas for the Lyceum Club and its associated buildings to become a community/visitor hub with improved facilities and where we can tell the story of Port Sunlight. There is a lot to think about, including parking and accessibility, but we want to share these early ideas with you to get your thoughts. In the back room of this house you will be able to see more about our ideas. Whether you live here, work here, or are visiting, we would love to know what you think about these ideas. Your feedback is important to us. Have a look at our ideas, and then please use the post it notes to write comments to tell us what ideas you like. Feel free to share any ideas of your own. The illustration shows an idea of how this space might look, together with some example images of other projects of a similar nature.
