LET’S TALK Engagement

Port Sunlight Village Trust (PSVT) is looking to improve how we engage with our residents.  We want to make sure we are delivering the right services for you, and that you are involved, informed and able to influence how we do things.

Catherine Simmons and Paul Kelly have been brought in to work with PSVT and local residents to shape this new Resident Engagement strategy.

Let’s Talk is their approach to engaging with Port Sunlight Village Residents and they need your help to get this work right for our unique community.

Here are some ways you can get involved.

  • Completing the confidential survey you should have received through your letterbox. If you prefer to complete the survey online you can access via the following link: resident engagement surveyAll survey entries will be entered into a prize draw to win one of 3 gift vouchers (1 x £50 / 2 x £25).
  • Lets Talk Workshop sessions – Catherine and Paul will be hosting two in person sessions that will explore what’s important to you and how you might want to be involved. Lyceum Early Proposals Consultation

We would like to re-imagine the Lyceum and create an inspiring place for residents and visitors to meet, create and learn for the community and visitors. Working with Chambers Conservation, we’ve created a series of visuals containing early ideas and the thinking behind them.

Once you’ve seen the ideas, you’re invited to leave your feedback. This will then inform the development of our plans later this year.

Please submit any feedback you may have by email to admin@portsunlightvillage.com

The next phase of conservation work on Port Sunlight’s War Memorial begins

The next phase of conservation work on Port Sunlight’s War Memorial begins

Following the successful completion of conservation work on Port Sunlight’s War Memorial’s bronzes and essential surveys of its structure earlier in 2023, Port Sunlight Village Trust has begun the next phase of an important project to protect the Grade I listed monument.

Due to the pointing between joints degrading over time, much of the structure is being repointed to strengthen the War Memorial and make it less vulnerable to water penetration. The stonework is also being carefully steam cleaned.

This work will begin in the week commencing 14 August and continue until early November 2023.

To protect the public and the War Memorial itself, fencing will be placed around the site, which will include the west side of the road (by the noticeboard), and a partial road closure will be in place.

This means the War Memorial will be completely inaccessible to the public while the work is taking place. We understand this isn’t ideal and we’re sorry for any disappointment, but the safety of everyone must be our top priority.

Vehicles will still be able to drive along the Causeway in both directions, however they will only be able to turn around the War Memorial on its east side, which may cause minor disruption to the usual flow of traffic.

This conservation work has been fully funded by Port Sunlight Village Trust and is an important part of our long-term strategy to maintain and look after Port Sunlight’s monuments.

The War Memorial will be fully reopened and accessible in time for Remembrance Sunday. Some minor conservation will take place between 1-3rd November 2023.

Rare opportunity to lead Port Sunlight Village Trust’s Board

Rare opportunity to lead Port Sunlight Village Trust’s Board of Trustees

PSVT is searching for someone new to lead our Board of Trustees.

The Wirral village of Port Sunlight is known for being built by William Lever from 1888 to provide housing for ‘Sunlight Soap’ factory workers. It is arguably the finest surviving example of early urban planning in the UK, and has remained largely intact since its foundation. Its Arts and Crafts-style houses and picturesque parks and gardens make the village a popular place to live and visit.

Set up by Unilever in 1999, Port Sunlight Village Trust (PSVT) is an independent charity responsible for preserving the village’s heritage. We are a private landlord to around a third of the village’s houses, public and commercial buildings, and cares for its significant monuments and over 130 acres of parkland and gardens.

To achieve our mission of promoting the village, PSVT also operates Port Sunlight Museum and other visitor attractions, runs an expanding learning programme for schools and education groups, and delivers a year-round programme of events and activities for the public and local community.

Our current Chair of the Board, Rob Young, is stepping down following two terms of three years. Now, PSVT is advertising the rare opportunity for someone new to fill the important role.

Rob Young, current Chair of PSVT’s Board, said: “It has been my privilege and honour to be Chair of this unique and diverse charity and business. We’ve achieved so much as an organisation over the past six years, and I’m excited to see what someone else can contribute to Port Sunlight through this challenging yet rewarding role.”

The role gives someone with excellent leadership skills the […]

The Road Race returns to Port Sunlight in 2023

The Road Race returns to Port Sunlight in 2023

One of the biggest events in Port Sunlight’s events calender is returning in 2023 – the Port Sunlight Road Race! Organised by BTR Liverpool, the Road Race welcomes thousands of runners each year to follow the 5k or 10k route through the village’s leafy streets. It’s arguably one of the most picturesque running events in the UK.

This year’s edition takes places on Sunday 11th June. We’re delighted to be welcoming back Unilever Port Sunlight as the headline sponsor for the event.

Fancy taking part? There is still time to sign up here.

Important information for residents

As in previous years, road closures will be in effect from 7:30am to 2pm on race day, Sunday 11th June.

Download our map and accompanying information here for all the details.

We encourage all those attending the event to travel via public transport although there will be some car parks open around the edge of the village on the day.

Information sessions

If you are a village resident or business and have questions about road closures you’ll be pleased to hear that we are running drop-in sessions on Monday 5th June between 2-3pm and 6-7pm at the Church Hall on Bridge Street to help answer your queries. We are particularly anxious to hear from and assist residents with carers (or their neighbours if they cannot attend the drop-in) who will need to gain access to homes on race day.

If you cannot attend either session, contact Sarah Preston on 0151 644 4800 or s.preston@portsunlightvillage.com who will be happy to answer your […]

Now that the weather is getting warmer, Port Sunlight’s Warm Space is becoming Port Sunlight’s Warm Welcome. Sessions will run on the first Tuesday of every month, 9am–12pm, from 6 June 2023. Everyone is welcome to join and take part in activities, enjoy free hot drinks and toast, and access information from local support services.

Church Hall is located on Bridge Street (CH62 4UP), opposite the bowling green. The building is wheelchair accessible and an accessible toilet is located off-site across the road at SoapWorks. Guide and assistance dogs are welcome.
