BBC ONE's ANTIQUE ROADSHOW VISITS PORT SUNLIGHT

THURSDAY 7TH JUNE 2012

BBC ONE's ever popular Sunday evening programme ANTIQUES ROADSHOW will be filming for its 35th series at Port Sunlight, on Thursday, 7th June, 2012. The doors open at 9.30 am and close at 4.30pm. Entry to the show is free.

This will be presenter Fiona Bruce's fifth year with the Roadshow and she says, "Presenting the Antiques Roadshow is, for me, one of those rare and very lucky coincidences in television when you get to work on a show that you already love to watch. Exploring the human story behind every object is what makes Antiques Roadshow so fascinating. And everyone loves the agony and ecstasy of the 'what's it worth? moment. The AR isn't just about antiques - it's history, beauty and drama all wrapped up in one.'

Some of Britain's leading antiques and fine arts specialists will be on hand to offer free advice and valuations to visitors, who are invited to raid their attics and bring along their family heirlooms, household treasures and car boot bargains for inspection by the experts.

People with large pieces of furniture or other big items can send details and photographs of their objects to: ANTIQUES ROADSHOW, BBC, Whiteladies Road, Bristol BS8 2LR or e-mail them to: antiques.roadshow@bbc.co.uk. It may be possible to arrange to look at the item in advance and organise transportation to the venue.

Series Editor Simon Shaw says: "The team are all looking forward to visiting Port Sunlight. It's always exciting to see what will come to light on the day. We regularly see between 1500 and 2000 visitors on the day. Despite the high turnout everyone will get to see an expert."

Following on from the superb success of Nicola's pop up Kitchen launch in October 2011, Nicola will present her 'Sunlight Bistro' evening event serving local beers and wines along with a tasty 3 course meal.

Located above Port Sunlight Museum, Sunlight Bistro is a new and exciting idea making a great evening of tasty food and drink in a relaxed and stylish venue with its comtemporary feel and eclectic decor.

Nicola Toner will be hosting her Bistro evenings throughout 2012, theming the food flavour to the time of year, giving a home-cooked feel you are bound to enjoy!

Nicola states "We hope that we can complement the current programme of community events at Port Sunlight Museum by introducing a regular "foodie" item to their already bursting calendar. I don't live in Port Sunlight but I live very close by and I know that we have a great deal of foodies in the area who are looking for a regular local event, where they can experience good food, in local surroundings without having to venture too far".

Nicola continues, "A pop up event has the ability to showcase a less rigid menu and also give a more spontaneous feel to the evening, being part of a "one off" bespoke occasion is something that we have found diners really enjoy."

The menu will offer great food at realistic prices with some unusual dishes to tickle your taste buds. Listed below are a few menu ideas Nicola may have on her menu's coming soon.

Boston Clam Chowder,

Crab Pate,

Meatloaf or Stuffed Turkey

followed by a Pecan or Pumpkin Pie maybe?

Other tasty treats to look out for at one of Nicola's Sunlight Bistro evenings could be:

Frazzled Black Pudding and Chorizo salad or Pumpkin, Orange & Ginger Soup

Moroccan Lamb Tagine with Spiced Cous Cous or Slow Roasted Pork with Mustard Mash and Maple Glaze

Creamy Lemon Posset or Baked Vanilla Cheese Cake

The Sunlight Bistro evening will run from 6.30pm til late. Booking essential due to limited seating.

TEA AT PORT SUNLIGHT MUSEUM

If you have not yet visited Port Sunlight Museum's new Tea Room, you are in for a real treat. Since opening at the end of May 2011, we have received fantastic feedback from residents and visitors alike. People have commented on the friendliness of the staff, the quality of the food and drink, the relaxing atmosphere, and also the fact it's great value for money.

All our cake and quiche is handmade locally by Nicola Toner of Nicola's Pop-Up Kitchen.

Port Sunlight Museum is working with locally based Typhoo Tea, from Moreton, Wirral, 'tea at Port Sunlight Museum,' is a new and unique venture, joining two major Wirral iconic businesses together, sharing their fascinating historical backgrounds with the thousands of visitors visiting Port Sunlight every year!

Called 'tea at Port Sunlight Museum, with Typhoo', the contemporary styled self serve refreshment stop offers freshly prepared sandwiches, tasty soup of the day, not to mention the delectable selection of cakes and pastries plus a wonderful array of speciality tea's, with both herbal and traditional tastes to suit everyone's palette.

Catering for up to 40 sittings the tea room is the perfect place to help you recharge your batteries ready to go and explore more of beautiful Port Sunlight Village.
